I can really recommend you to visit Auckland, Northland (including Cape Reinga), the Coromandel Peninsula, Rotorua, The Tongariro National Park (try the day's march "Tongariro Crossing"), Napier (that's the place where I went to school:wink:) and Wellington.
The South Island has a more beautiful landscape, but is also lonesome and sparsely populated...
The highlights on the South Island are: Abel Tasman National Park, Franz Josef Glacier, Queenstown, Milford Sound and Christchurch.
