Die Band wurde im Jahr 2002 von Stephen Christian, Deon Rexroat, Joseph Milligan, Nathan Young und Joey Bruce gegründet. Das Debütalbum "Blueprints for the Black Market" erschien am 6. Mai 2003 bei Tooth & Nail Records. Kurz nach der Veröffentlichung wurde Joey Bruce gegen Nathan Strayer ausgetauscht. Am 1. Februar 2005 erschien mit "Never Take Friendship Personal" das zweite Album der Band, das Platz 144 der US-amerikanischen Billboard Charts erreichte. Am 26. Dezember 2006 wurde die Single "Godspeed" veröffentlicht, kurz darauf am 20. Februar 2007 das dritte Album "Cities". Dieses Album erreichte Platz 19 der Billboard Charts. Nach der Veröffentlichung verließ Nathan Strayer die Band und wurde durch Christian McAlhaney ersetzt.

Am 20. November 2007 erschien "Lost Songs", eine Compilation bisher unveröffentlichter Stücke. Das neue Album 'New Surrender' erschien am 30. September 2008 auf dem Label Universal Republic Records, zu dem Anberlin im August 2007 wechselten.

Der Name entstand übrigens aus einer Liste, die Frontmann Stephen Christian mal angelegt hatte. Auf dieser "Liste" waren alle europäischen Städte aufgelistet, die er gern einmal sehen würde. Es waren: "London, Paris, Rome and Berlin" So wurde aus "...and Berlin" kurzerhand "Anberlin"

Schade, schade, das die Jungs irgendwie gar keiner hören will.

Dabei haben sie wirklich schöne Texte und die Stimme von Frontmann Stephen Christian ist einfach wundervoll. Ich würd mich wohl sofort verlieben, wenn ich nicht schon verliebt wäre.

Naive Orleans ist echt ein tolles Lied, da gefällt mir die Stimme vom Sänger auch richtig.
In dem Link da oben hab ich jedoch schon nach einer halben Minute das hier rausgesucht, weil ich da seine Stimme nicht so mochte :/

"Inevitable" ist auch ein schöner Song, oder "The unwinding cable car" oooder... "A Day late"

Ich habe alle bisher erschienenen Alben, die da wären:

"Blueprints for the Blackmarket"
"Never take friendship personal" (Klasse Album!)
"Cities"
"Lost Songs" (Zusammenstellung, Best Of, unveröffentlichtes)
"New Surrender" (Hier sind einige tolle Songs drauf, u.a eine neue Version on "The feel good drag" oder "Haight St." oder "Younglife" oder "Soft Skeletons"
