Ich habe diese Theorie im Netz gefunden und obwohl sie auf den ersten Blick unfassbar abwegig scheint,sind die Argumente doch irgendwo überzeugend:

-Dumbledore certainly would have had an animangus form.
He was "the greatest wizard in a thousand years" (or something like that--don't have a book in front of me) and once taught transfiguration (see book 2, the part in the CoS where Riddle refers to Dumbledore as "his old transfiguration teacher") so surely he could transform into something. Sirius had more loyalty than any other quality, so he was a dog. Pettigrew was a sneak more than anything else, so he was a rat. Rowling confirmed to us that a wizard doesn't chose its animangus form, they just turn into what suits them. Can you think of a more appropriate animal for Dumbledore than an owl (you know all the clichés and sayings, such as "wise old owl" and "wise as an owl")?
-Animangus forms represent the wizard or witch's appearance (Rita Skeeter's beetle markings similar to her jeweled glasses, Minerva's cat having markings around the eyes like her glasses, Sirius Black's dog being black like his hair was). Dumbledore has a long white beard, and long white hair. Hedwig is white. And here's another note about Hedwig's looks:
-Various characters throughout the books tell Harry both how SMART his owl is, and how RARE that kind of owl is where they are.
An animangus owl would certainly explain both of those things (Dumbledore is smart, his owl is white to resemble his true form), plus *when Rowling keeps repeating seemingly trivial info. (a la Harry having his mother's eyes, which Rowling has admitted will be important later), there is often something more important going on*
--Hedwig seemed to have hurt her talon in the last book (can't check it in more detail, somebody's got my book) and Dumbledore hurt his hand
--Dumbledore tells Harry in OotP that he's watched him, Harry, more closely than he can have realized (see the part in the end where Dumbledore is talking to Harry after the Ministry of Magic fiasco). In the first book, he tells Harry, upon finding him sitting in front of the Mirror, that he, Dumbledore, can avoid being seen (or "noticed," not sure which word was used, and again no book) when he wishes.
So, we've heard twice now a very strong hint from Rowling that Dumbledore is watching Harry when Harry doesn't realize (this also explains, of course, how Dumbledore seems to know everything before he's told, or at least never seems surprised). If Dumbledore was Hedwig, he could be around Harry regularly and not really be "seen" (noticed) because Harry would just accept Hedwig's presence the way everybody accepts that of their pet. And that would allow Dumbledore to watch Harry very closely indeed, particularly in the summers when he's away from Hogwarts and Dumbledore can't watch over him as his headmaster. It would even give Dumbledore extra information, as many people (including Harry) occasionally talk to their pet or tell it things (you're not going to tell your pet something that's a lie, why would you?). This could explain, for example, how Dumbledore knew so quickly that Harry was at The Burrow in book 2, or that he wasn't lying when he said he didn't put his name in the GoF (I think he told Hedwig as much). I do realize that there are other ways Dumbledore may have known these things, but you see the possibilities.
-Harry doesn't buy Hedwig, *Hagrid gives her to him*
(side note: In that same book, Dumbledore not only appoints Hagrid the one to bring baby Harry to the Dursleys, and also appoints him the one to get him ready for Hogwarts (both hugely important tasks, obviously, that a number of wizards could have done), he also says to Minerva that he'd trust Hagrid with his life. So, I don't think that Dumbledore having Hagrid deliver Dumbledore-in-owl-form to Harry is hard to believe. It doesn't really matter if Hagrid knew that the owl was Dumbledore, or not (in such case, Dumbledore could have just told Hagrid he was going to send him an owl, which would be given to Harry for his birthday).
-Harry doesn't get owl letters in HBP--students find him and give him messages. Why wouldn't Hedwig be delivering messages? At the same time, Dumbledore is disappearing regularly.
-Finally, the last book didn't end with Harry at the Hogwarts Express. If Hedwig WAS Dumbledore, that would be why--Harry going to the Hogwarts Express with his things would mean he notices his owl is missing.
As for Hedwig being a girl and Dumbledore obviously not, all I can say is, how easy is it to tell an owl's gender? If Harry was just told it was a female, wouldn't he have simply believed it? After all, he wasn't exactly an owl expert! A bird's gender is not as obvious as that of other animals. I bought a bird from a pet store once, and the long time owner told me it was a male. A few years later, "he" started laying eggs in the cage (I sear to you up and down that that is true!).
Es folgt eine Diskussion zum Thema Time/Timing
1. While D. surely needs SOME Hogwarts time in the summer, surely he doesn't need nearly as much as he usually does. teh_wifear's mother has been a school principal for years, and though she does spend more time doing school stuff than, say, the teachers or students, she's still able to take quite a long summer break. Teh_wifear has furthermore pointed out that McGonagall has proven she's able to handle the school just fine when Dumbledore is not around.
2. To those who are skeptical that Dumbledore would want to spend so much time as Harry's pet, consider this: Dumbledore has always known that Harry was the only one that would have the power to permanently getting rid of Voldie. What could be more important than keeping Harry safe?
3. Rowling may introduce something new in the next book that he can use to take caure of things at Hogwarts at the same time he's with Harry (a spell, an object), but it's also possible he uses a time turner. We know he has access to them. We also know he's been aging very rapidly lately. What if he were aging so much because he keeps reliving the same day or week so that he can get everything done? So, he's locked up in the cage, finally gets free, then makes it to Hogwarts (probably flies out of Harry/Muggle sight, turns back into his human form, Apparates as close to Hogwarts as he can get, then flies as Hedwig up to the castle--this would mean he could go to Hogwarts from Privet Drive in just a couple minutes). Then he can use a Time Turner to make it so he's been there the whole time, taking care of things at Hogwarts. But he'd still be aging for all the time he's awake, and he'd be very tired (like Hermione was in the second book) from all that extra time he's using, and the tiredness can make him look even MORE aged.

DD Bart --> weiß
Hedwig -->weiß
